Training of a Forest Firefighter: Armed Forces of Ukraine
On December 14, 2023, an online Forest Firefighter Training was held in Ukraine, organized by the All-Ukrainian Environmental League within the framework of the project «Creation of a public forest fire protection system in Ukraine» with the support of the US Forest Service.
Experts from the US Forest Service, who had extensive experience in fighting forest fires, presented their latest developments and best practices on methods and algorithms for extinguishing forest fires. Representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) had a unique opportunity to learn and implement these new approaches in practice.
The training included practical advice by simulating various forest fire scenarios. Participants had the opportunity to listen to information on various firefighting techniques and technologies, taking into account landscape and meteorological features.
During the training, experts emphasized the effectiveness of teamwork, cooperation with other rescue services and the use of modern technologies in fighting forest fires. This was especially important in the context of an emergency situation where every second counts.
