Під час горіння у повітря викидаються великі обсяги вуглецю, чадного газу та інших шкідливих речовин, що погіршує якість атмосферного повітря та негативно впливає на кліматичні процеси як на місцевому, так і на глобальному рівнях. Пожежі також порушують водний баланс у постраждалих територіях, знижуючи вологість ґрунтів і підвищуючи ризик повеней у сезон дощів.
У 2024 році в Україні зафіксували понад 46 тисяч пожеж в екосистемах, з яких близько 4 800 виникли внаслідок бойових дій. Найбільше постраждали Харківська, Донецька, Полтавська, Черкаська та Житомирська області.
Щоб мінімізувати ці негативні наслідки, Всеукраїнська екологічна ліга з 2022 року реалізує проєкт «Створення громадської системи протипожежного захисту лісів в Україні» за підтримки Міжнародної програми Лісової служби США (U.S. Forest Service International Programs).
Основною метою проєкту є посилення протидії лісовим пожежам в Україні через створення системи добровільних пожежних формувань в пілотних громадах.
Добровільні пожежні дружини є важливим елементом системи пожежної безпеки та громадської самодопомоги. Ці дружини складаються з добровольців, які готові взяти на себе відповідальність за захист своєї спільноти від пожеж та інших надзвичайних ситуацій. Їхнім завданням є вчасна реакція на виникнення пожежі та допомога професійним пожежникам у подоланні небезпеки.
Разом ми працюємо над тим, щоб зберегти ліси України і забезпечити безпеку громад.
Volunteer Fire Protection — The Key to Forest Safety
Forest fires cause significant ecological damage with long-term consequences for natural ecosystems. Fire destroys vegetation cover, leading to a loss of biodiversity, including rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. The destruction of the top fertile soil layer due to fires increases the risk of erosion and complicates the natural restoration of forests.
During burning, large amounts of carbon, carbon monoxide, and other harmful substances are released into the atmosphere, worsening air quality and negatively impacting climatic processes both locally and globally. Fires also disrupt the water balance in affected areas, reducing soil moisture and increasing the risk of floods during the rainy season.
In 2024, Ukraine recorded over 46,000 fires in ecosystems, about 4,800 of which occurred due to hostilities. The most affected regions were Kharkiv, Donetsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr oblasts.
To minimize these negative impacts, since 2022 the All-Ukrainian Environmental League has been implementing the project «Creation of a Public System of Fire Protection of Forests in Ukraine» supported by the U.S. Forest Service International Programs.
The main goal of the project is to strengthen wildfire prevention in Ukraine by establishing volunteer fire brigades in pilot communities.
Volunteer fire brigades are an important element of the fire safety system and community self-help. These brigades consist of volunteers ready to take responsibility for protecting their communities from fires and other emergencies. Their tasks include timely response to fires and assisting professional firefighters in overcoming the danger.
Together, we are working to preserve Ukraine’s forests and ensure the safety of our communities.
